Dunes Ranks Top 100 Golfweek Magazine
THE DUNES GOLF AND BEACH CLUB NAMED ONE OF “BEST CLASSIC COURSES” BY GOLFWEEK MAGAZINE Highly-Acclaimed Robert Trent Jones Sr. Course Also Named One of the Top Resort Facilities April 2, 2009, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Dunes Golf and Beach Club has been named one of Golfweek Magazine’s “Best Classic Courses” in its annual “Golfweek’s Best” rankings, published in the March 14th issue. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened for play on October 22, 1949, The Dunes Golf and Beach Club is ranked No. 94 in 2009, and is one of only two South Carolina courses to make the prestigious list. Named to Golfweek’s inaugural list of “Best Classic Courses” in 1997, The Dunes Club has been ranked each year and is the only Myrtle Beach area course to be named among the top 100 each year. Golfweek defines a classic course as being built prior to 1960, and rates courses based on criteria that includes the ease and intimacy of routing, integrity of design, quality of feature shaping, natural setting and overall land planning among other categories. The Dunes Club also debuted onto Golfweek’s Best Resort Courses” ranking in 2009 at No. 21. Using the same criteria for the rating the course as with the classic and modern courses, Golfweek defines a resort course as one that is open to the public as long as they stay at partner property. “We have truly made a commitment to be one of the most admired courses in the nation,” Dennis Nicholl, The Dunes Club’s head golf professional. “Robert Trent Jones’ genius ingenuity has really made this course stand the test of time and continue to flourish. It is an honor to be recognized by Golfweek Magazine as one of America’s best classic and resort courses.”
